Nominate me for the Precious Blogger of the Year!!!! (Pretty Please)

Hello my lovelies,

Sorry for the missed posts this week  but as some of you might know I had a teeny weeny accident on Monday which resulted in me going to the hospital and getting 5 stitches in my leg (my beautiful leg *dissolves in tears*).

Anyway because of where the cut is positioned, I've been in a bit of pain (as you can imagine) and having been popping 500mg Panadol like they are skittles.

I just wanted to make a quick post letting you know what happened . . . if you are nosey, click on this link and want to see a picture of the nurse doing a mini operation on me (got the junior nurse to take the pictures because I'm weird like that)

Anyway like the post header says, Precious the online Magazine are holding their 6th Annual Precious Awards and i would really, really (really) appreciate it if you could nominate me and my blog for the award.
It's super easy as you only have to know the name of my blog (it's Epiphannie A: Beauty by a Disneyvore  . . . in case you didn't know) and tell them why you like my blog in 50 words or less

Simples!!!!

So get involved and get nominating!!!!!

I think I need a holiday . . .

Reading one of the many email newsletters that pop into my inbox on a daily basis about train journeys you need to book this year, I couldn’t help but realize that 2012 is almost over and I haven’t been anywhere on holiday yet.

I haven’t boarded a plane, train or boat. I haven’t gone quad biking, screamed my lungs off on a sped-boat or eaten weird food that I know would probably make me sick but still eat anyway for the bragging rights.

The train journey that grabbed my interest was meant to take you on the scenic route to snow-capped mountains straight out of ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’ and quite honestly I am this close to attempting to reserve a luxury ski chalet in Zermatt with Supertravel.co.uk and dragging my unsuspecting best friend and sis along with me.

Just imagine . . .

*Does weird screen distorting effect that happens on TV when someone is imagining something (you know the one)*

Drinking hot chocolate with mini marshmallows in a chalet while people slide down a mountain in style (that’s what I call snowboarding/skiing) and mentally wishing that someone smacks straight into a tree . . . not because I’m mean but I just really want to see if it happens as often as people say it does.

Yhhhhhh . . . I think I might as well use some of the holiday I have left for the year and take a well-deserved break.

I’m sure you lovely people would look after the blog while I’m gone  . . .right??

Have you been on holiday yet this year?? Where did you go so I can start researching places I should go.

Review:- Naked Rescue Repairing Hair Treatment

If you’ve ever met me or had the misfortune of following me on instagram then you’ll happen to know that my hair and I have a very fickle relationship.

In the last 3 or 5 years I have died my hair blonde, then red, then black, then blue , then black, then grey, then blonde which turned ginger and then back to black (and by next week it will be BLUE!!!!) and it the last 4 months I’ve gone from long hair to a short crop (very Miley Cyrus) to curly hair to my infamous kinky afro to the most recent shoulder length style (thank God for whoever discovered extensions). So as you can imagine my hair is not always in the best condition. I find that it can be very dry and if not taken care of and conditioned properly gets frizzy, coarse and breaks
I was recently introduced to Naked which is a 97% natural skincare/haircare brand that are 100% transparent about what ingredients go into their products. If you check out their website they will tell you that while they use natural extracts like Sunflower, Cocoa Butter and Argan Oil, and have no toxic parabens and petrochemicals, they are not 100% natural because they want to ensure that the products you are buying are preserved properly so you can get your moneys worth without it going off and separating before you’ve finished using it up.
I was sent the Naked Skin’s Repairing Hair Treatment for Frizzy and Damaged Hair, which is an Argan oil, Sunflower Seed Extract and Meadowfoam conditioning treatment that you use after washing your hair and gently comb through before wrapping your hair up in a shower cap and leaving for 3-5 minutes.

Being lazy, stubborn and never reading the directions, I left this in my hair and extensions for a little longer than the 5 minutes that was recommended (*cough cough* 3 hours) and honestly I think that the added time and the 32 degree weather worked to my benefit as my hair is sooo soft.

I'm actually not joking you can stroke it if you want!!

Although I didn't really love the smell when I put it in my hair (smelt a bit like henna) the henna smell wears off once you wash it out and you're left with a lovely shea oil scent in your hair.
I'm going to buy a container on this tomorrow so I can try it out a bit more, if you want to try it out for yourself the satchet costs £1.29 or you can get a 400ml jar for £7.99. They are both available on the Keep Me Inspired Website or Boots.

Review: MAC Paint in Sublime Nature

Thought I should share with you a product that has been on the blogging back burners for a while. I bought this on the recommendation of Gulnit (my favourite Mac Artist) a few months back and I never got round to making a post on it  . . . so better late than never!!!
MAC paint in Sublime Nature is a cool beige brown that has a slight shimmer to it. I have slightly oily eyelids but wear contacts I don’t find the consistency too dry as it doesn’t really bother my eyes; which is great.

As opposed to some cream eye shadows which dry the minute you apply it, not really leaving much room for you to blend and work with it (*cough cough* Makeup Forever), plus I really love the fact that it comes in a squeezy toothpaste like tube which I feel is a bit more hygienic that cream bases in pots
For some strange reason, MAC have discontinued the majority of the MAC paint range so you can only get 7 shades in their MAC Paints, with Sublime Nature being one of those 7 options.

Honestly I was in the market for something a lot darker and closer to my skin tone (that wasn’t groundwork) as I currently use Illamasqua’s cream eye shadow in Linger as a base and these two shades are very close together (which might be why I haven’t really used Sublime Nature as much as I should have by now) but if you are looking for a light brown base/eyeshadow primer in a tube then you should probably give Sublime Nature a try

Is it just me or do you seem to buy the same colours but in different textures or variations??

Becca Cosmetics Giveaway!!!!!!!

Salutations beauty lovers,

It’s Impromptu Giveaway Time!!!
I haven’t really don’t a givewaway since my blog anniversary/birthday giveaway in May and really wasn’t planning to do another one for a while but I recently received a BECCA Lip Plumping Moisture Gloss at the Keziah Connections Event which I was really looking forward to reviewing after reading a review by Ruth from A Model Recommends.

It wasn’t til I got round to taking some blog pictures earlier on in the week, that I realized on of the main ingredients in the lipgloss was honey *da dam duuuuuuuuummm!!!!!*

For anyone that doesn’t know, I am VERY allergic to honey. While I’m not exactly sure which type of honey I am allergic to, I do know that my skin has a very bad reaction to it. So rather than risk an allergic reaction by swatching and using this product, I am passing it on to you my lovely subscribers to enjoy its Cinnamon, Honey and Vanilla Benefits.

Review:- Becca Stick Foundation in Almond

What I love most about being a beauty blogger is running across different brands and products that I would be never have heard or thought about, which are actually perfect for me and my skin. To be honest I didn't know anything about Becca Cosmetics until last yeast which is a real shame as they are an Australian Brand in the UK best known for having a shade match for virtually every skintone.

They offer 30 shades in a variety of coverages and undertones, and stock foundations at least 4 shades darker than what I wear (FYI that is a very BIG DEAL)

I picked up Becca’s Stick Foundation in Almond and their Foundation/Concealer Brush in #58 (which works as a perfect tool for this foundation) at the Keziah Connections Event held at the Becca South Kensington Flagship Store and I’ve said this on twitter, instagram and to anyone who has asked about my makeup in the last few weeks, this foundation is literally my skin colour cloned and stuck into a foundation tube. It is just flipping spot on!!!!!

You might think that I’m hyping up yet another product and being a bit over the top but just look at the swatch I took it’s virtually undetectable!
So I decided to try and give you another view of how it looks like on my face
The Becca Stick Foundation has a controllable sheer to medium coverage with a SPF 30 (it’s Australian Remember), has a non-powder based formulation and has the added bonus of containing anti-oxidant vitamins A,D & E.

On one hand I am surprised that there aren’t more reviews on this product online as I feel its flipping fantastic but on the other hand with a price tag of £35 it is very expensive. I got this foundation on a 20% offer on account of the event but regardless it is one of the most expensive stand alone products in my collection

But then again, is price really an issue? How much would you spend to get a foundation that was so on point with your skintone that you can’t even tell which areas of your face you’ve used it on?

New:- Laura Mercier Creme Smooth Lip Colour

Laura Mercier are introducing a luxurious new lipstick that promises to give your lips some colour, texture and finish in one smooth wipe.

Enriched with pure Olive Oil and Vitamin E, this crème liptstick will not bleed, feather or settle within your lip lines so I take that to mean that the Crème Smooth Lip Colour Lipstick will give you a semi-lustre finish rather than a zebra-like finish (which to be honest is not what we want).

Dermatologically and Allergy tested and in 18 Colours
Rose/Pinks:- Angelic, Pink Blush, Spiced Rose, Anitque Pink, Rosewood, Pink Dust
Coral/Rubies:- Crème Coral, Mango, Portofino Red, Red Amour, Haute Red,
Brown/Nudes:- Peche, Dulce de Leche, Sienna, Cocoa
Plum/Violets:- Merlot, Plumberry, Plum Orchid

Priced at £20 a pop, these Lipsticks are available in your local Space NK and on the Laura Mercier Online store from September 2012.

Which one will you choose when it officially releases?  I think Cocoa might just catch my debit cards eye

Products I HATE:- MAC Face & body (N9)

What is up with everyone’s love for MAC Face and Body Foundation??? I absolutely HATE this product and in my opinion, it is just expensive coloured water!!!
(regrettably) bought the Face and Body Foundation on the back of many blog and YouTube reviews that sang it’s praised and claimed it was the best foundation for a natural coverage as it’s water based so it’s light and airy . . . .Honestly I think MAC just one-upped it’s customers and sold us a foundation mixed with water (water-based foundation, my back foot).

This baby has the superpower to transform my normal skin into a shiny and sweaty looking mess, with the added anility of leaking off my face and onto my clothes like you would not believe.
Despite the many great reviews, I honestly would NOT recommend you buy this foundation!!

  1.  It’s like slapping coloured Vaseline on your face
  2. NO SPF Factor – So if you are using this in the summer . . . that’s just skin damage
  3. I’ve had this foundation for 2 months and the formula has already started to separate
  4. It's just a slippery mess
I am still trying to figure out what I’m going to end up doing with this at the moment, I don’t think it’s worth even using on the rest of my body as a bit of coverage but it makes a very good paper weight.

Heroes vs Villains - Disneyvore Style!!!!

It just occurred to me that despite my being called ‘Beauty by a Disneyvore’ I haven’t done any Disney inspired looks yet, which is really bad on my part *smacks self on hand* ‘Bad Annie’

Anyway I thought I should do something very different so every week I am going to choose a Disney cartoon to base a makeup look on but to switch it up a bit because I have a feeling that everyone would vote for their favourite Disney Princess and miss out all the other awesome characters so its going to be a toss up between a Hero and a Villian!!!!!

I have no idea what cartoon to choose for my first looks though . . . Any Ideas??? I would really love to have a vote on which cartoons I should use every week

Review: Revlon Colorburst Lipgloss in Sunbaked

My love affair with Revlon Colorburst Lipgloss continues.
I’ve finally managed to get round to buying Revlon’s Colorburst Lipgloss in Sunbaked and at the same time completed my wishlist for this summer’s Colorburst collection.

I have already posted many times about the lipgloss formula and appearance/packaging so to go on and say this again would be very, VERY repetitive and bore you to death. Sunbaked is a warm brown- pink mixture that I would place smack bang in the middle of Revlon’s Rosegold and Crystal Pink.

I’ve also noticed that colour wise, Sunbaked is a great dupe for MAC’s Spice Lipglass which appeared in the MAC LE Fashion sets so if you missed out on grabbing that then I suggest you grab Sunbaked as you get the same beautiful colour but with more product.
I know I have a bit of a lipgloss obsession but let me know if its starts to border on excessive . . just so when I post another one I can do a little evil grin when I click publish. Let me know do you think Sunbaked is a great Dupe for Spice?

Review: AKA Cosmetics Lipgloss in Sumptuous

I’m a gloss girl to be fair.

A minimum of 4 glosses can be found on me at any time . . . and occasionally more if I remember to put my things in my makeup bag instead of my bags and pockets.

I have wanted to share this lipgloss with you a while ago but the original lipgloss pictures where among those I lost when I broke my 16gb sd card . . . and after managing to take backups . . . managed to lose my 8gb sd card as well so this is a third time lucky shot at this post.
AKA cosmetics is a new cosmetics brand in the UK with the concept of helping you create a smokey, demure or carnival look with getting yourself in a confusing pickle.  Sumptuous is a beautiful berry shade that is non sticky or weighs down the lips, I find that it’s glossy and shiny at first but does stain (and looks great as a stain). Personally I think it’s a great going out shade as it has a lot of personality to it that would make it a great wear.
This gloss has a little sponge applicator that I love (I have a vendetta against those little brush applicators) so you are getting a great amount of product with just one swatch (as you can see in my picture).
Although Sumptous is not a colour I would pick up as I’m not the biggest fan of extreme pinks or purples. The colour payoff is still amazing with flash or without flash.

There are 6 lipgloss shades to choose from and priced at £7 a pop, don’t you think you should order one?

How Much Does It Cost To Be A Beauty Blogger?

Over the weekend, I read an article published by the Independent Fahion Bloggers  entitled ‘How Much Does It Cost To Be A Fashion Blogger?’ and while it was an interesting read, I thought the author would probably be a naked blogger because she really only touched on the initial start-up cost of blogging and not the running costs, so I thought that I should follow the theme of this article but share how much it personally costs  me to be a beauty blogger.
Camera: Fujifilm HS20 EXR = £299

While some bloggers prefer to use a point and shoot camera or a DSLR to take their photos, I’ve decided to use a bridge camera. I felt that it was the best option for me as I didn’t want to part with £500 odd pounds to buy a camera I had no clue how to use.

I originally bought my camera for about £250 off Amazon and I absolutely love it (even though I am thinking of buying an upgrade by Christmas). With my HS20 I’ve learnt a lot about aperture, shutter speed, lighting, depth of field, etc and honestly I love it and it works really well for what I use it for.

Rechargeable Batteries = £30

I own 8 rechargeable batteries with 2 chargers . . well I'm meant to have 2 chargers but I can't seem to find one of them. My camera runs on batteries, some people might have some that don't but if you do I would recommend you shell out on a set of rechargeable batteries as they will save you time and money in the future.

Memory Cards= £30

I go through Memory cards like crazy as I am always losing them or they break!!! I just broke my 16gb, lost my 8gb and now on a silly 4gb that I have offload my pictures from every week . .  very stressful!!.

SmartPhone: Iphone 4 - £35 a month

I agree with the point made in the original article that life as a blogger is made SIGNIFICANTLY easier if you have a smartphone. Apps like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram adds to your blog presence and also helps keeps you connected and interactions fairly neat.

I have had my iPhone 4 for about a year now, as I got it as a mini present for myself for my 21st birthday and love it!!! There are other phones out there but my iPhone is my baby.

Moo Mini Cards: £20

When you go to a few events, you will notice sooner than later than you need a business card for your blog. Scribbling out your blog and contact details on a piece of paper can be very time consuming when networking.

I got my business card for Moo.com and I just love how cute their mini-cards are, plus I bought their mini-card holder (in a pretty pink) and attached this to my camera strap so I don’t ever forget to take my cards with me.

Travel:  £10 for a return journey

This cost really applies regardless of where you live, if you are going to a brand event or blogger social you will have to travel from your house to the event location and that my loves will cost  you.

Before I started by job and bought myself a year’s travel pass (which I use 7 days out of 7), I had to get around on either a London weekly travelcard which cost £40 (yh that much for a week) or use the pay–as-you-go option which I think cost anything between £2.60 to £10 for a return journey which quickly starts to add up if you have to leave your house more than once in a week.

iPad Connector:- £7

Some might ask why the hell to do you have this? It makes viewing the pictures I take on my camera a lot easier as I get to blow up the pics, check their sharpness, send it to my various apps, email it around, upload it to my dropbox etc etc etc without ever having to go onto my computer.

It just is my little middle man of blogging.

Dropbox Account: Free

I would recommend dropbox to ANYONE!!! It’s somewhere you can save all your pictures and data and receive it anyway. With the dropbox app I upload my pictures and can instantly download on my phone, iPad. Netbook, Work computer, my Aunt’s computer in Nigeria. . . . I just do it as it saves me having to panic looking for a USB

Experimenting: £70

This is probably a cost that is very much dependent on the blogger but over the last year I have bought and experimented with using studio lights, light boxes and wallpapers/stones/mirrors as backgrounds just to get my pictures to look clearer and visually appeasing. Blogging is a learning process and you ARE going to experiment with props and equipment to find out what works for you and your picture/video taking style.

The first post I made over a year ago and a post I made last week on my blog look nothing alike. You probably can’t even tell that the same person took these photos because I keep learning, experimenting and adjusting and I can tell you right now I will keep experimenting and I doubt my blog will look like this in a years time.

Makeup Budget:- £150

I generally have a large budget for beauty (which I always go over) because I buy what I know or think will work for me, and honestly the majority of what I use is not that cheap.

My budget might seem a tad bit excessive to some people but the fact of the matter is that I blog because I like beauty AND the added fact that I am dark skinned living in the UK means that I generally have to spend between £20-£30 just for a foundation as my shade is not generally stocked in Highstreet/Drugstores so if I don’t want a foundation that makes me look orange or ashy, I have to part with the cash.

WOC in the UK don’t really have the luxury of stepping into any random Boots or Superdrug and knowing that your skin shade will be there, half the time it is sold out with a manky tester bottle showing you where your shade should (but never is) be.

Time: Fricking PRICELESS!!!!

Blogging is like a job.

I can’t even begin to tell you the amount of time I have stayed up til 2-3am editing pictures just so I can post it the next day when I know I have to be up at 6am to go to work or  trying to compose the opening paragraph to a sentence on my lunch break or (my favourite) waking up at 5/6am on a Saturday to do housework so I can have the freedom to spend hours taking 30 pictures of a single product only to put 3 pictures on a blog post.

Blogging takes up a lot of your time, and honestly you could be doing something else. Any blogger who has done this long enough will tell you that blogging sucks into your personal time but I do it because I love it (and a good concealer will hide the lack of sleep.)

Total Cost (Give or Take):-  £621 with an estimated monthly running cost of £185

I am aware that a lot of people think that beauty bloggers get a lot of stuff free but generally what you can receive are not products that you would necessarily go out of your way to buy and might not even be great for your skin shade or skin type, so if you want to be a beauty blogger and you think you are going to be showered with free stuff every week for you to try out . . . re-examine this.

Spitalfield's Blogger Meet Up

You have to love it when bloggers get together, a group of girls who know how difficult and annoying it is not to use a lipstick or a pair of earrings before you take blog pictures of it first. On Wednesday, 20 or so bloggers got together at Giraffe at Spitalfields for a blogger/vlogger get together and despite the VERY crap customer service we got from  the restaurant, we had a great time.
I met a lot of great new and old bloggers, and honestly I'm thinking of going again for the Saturday meet up just to have another go and the whole experience
Sheree and Jen
The Beautiful Promise who arranged the whole thing

Meet-Up Highlights

  • Sheree and I took it upon ourselves sample almost every cocktail they had on the list (well at 50% off, thats just too good a deal). Between the 2 of us I think we had 8 drinks (o_0)
  • Found out where I can get some great Topshop replica ear-cuffs
LOVE the way Michelle wore this white blazer
  • Have more inside knowledge of certain Human Hair Companies (It ain't pretty!)
  • Dropped my camera on the floor
  • Some bloggers really don't like fruit ice tea  . . . and no amount of brown sugar can change that (Yes Wunmi, I'm talking about You!)
  • Took the waitress 45 minutes to take our order and another 30 minutes to get it . . . this was after we had been there for almost 2 hours (-_-)
  • Food was absolutely gorgeous . . . but food always taste better when you're half starved looool
  • Left my Purse at the restaurant and had to walk all the way back to get it
I'm not sure on all the bloggers; blogs and names, but I find them out and will put down all the links of the bloggers who came . . . once I find out on twitter

We Need You . . . To Tan!!!!

Hello My Lovelies,

I’ve got something a bit fun to share with you today.

Laalaa and I are starting a little project for Women of Colour living in the UK.

Yes . . . You read right . . . We are going to tan up the Olives, Browns and Black Beauties all for the love of Science Beauty.

This blogger project just stems off an email some bloggers received recently about tanning products for brown/black skin, and as you can imagine I was a bit confused as to why I would tan, I mean I'm already dark.

Turns out tanning is a great way to even out your skin tone, plus tanning products targeted at brown/black skin isn't necessarily about getting you darker but giving you a shimmer or bronze glow (so its more like a 4-5 days bronzer)

The project basically a great way to see how different tanning products would look on different skin shades, so right now we are rounding up the different bloggers that are interested in taking part in this project.

We have currently looking for any Asian or Light brown ladies who are interested in getting involved as we have already got a lot of response from the middle to the end of our scale of N35 – N50.

ALSO I would love to find a lady has a very dark brown skin (talking NW55/58)

If you are interested in joining our project then drop me (Epiphanniea@hotmail.co.uk) or the gorgeous Laalaa (laalaa@dolcevanity.com) an email.

Makeup Look: Sweet, Bridal Pink

The best thing about Summer is probably the amount of weddings I get to go to.

With the wedding I went to last week, I chose not to go with the bridal colours of fuchsia or purple as these aren't really colours I would choose to wear and I refuse to spend my money on clothes that I have no intention of wearing again (waste of money and valuable wardrobe space) so instead I tried to get my makeup to lean into the colour scheme as best as I could.

Eyes:-
NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk
MAC Eyeshadow in Ricepaper
MAC Eyeshadow in Expensive Pink
MAC Eyeshadow in Stars n Rockets
MAC Eyeshadow in Passionate
MAC Eyeshadow in Hepcat
MAC Eyeshadow in Cranberry
MAC Eyeshadow in Texture
MUA Cosmetics Eyeliner in Jet Black
L'oreal Paris Super Liner in Carbon Gloss
Face:-
MAC Studio Fix Fluid in NW45
MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Deep Dark
MAC Select Cover Up Concealer in NW40
Illamasqua Cream Blush in Betray
MAC Transparent Loose Powder
Lips:-
MAC Lipstick in Speak Louder
Revlon Colorburst Lipgloss in Rose Gold (026)
MAC Lipglass in Spite

Well, don't I look sweet . . .

I think this is very much a bridal look or has the potential to be as even though I like my makeup to be quite dramatic around the eyes, this is actually very sweet  . . . and pink! I actually didn't realised I owned so much pink-toned makeup until I did this look.
What do you think about this look? Are you as surprised as I am on the amount of pink I've managed to use? I would love some feedback, so please leave a comment below.

I'm going to scrooge around my makeup collection and try to figure out who slipped all this pink in when I wasn't paying attention but Click here for a full list of products.
